A wine secret from upstate New York

The name Tierce may not mean much to average wine consumers or even dedicated wine lovers, but the wine is special, a terrific achievement, and may always be a wine geek’s secret. It will never command the attention accorded to Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon, or Russian River Valley pinot noir or a First Growth Bordeaux. Which is why it sells for only $30 a bottle. Part of the reason for this is that it has many strikes against it. For one thing, it is a dry 2009 Riesling (two strikes right there). And it is from New York (another strike). And it is a joint venture of three wineries best known in their own regions. And it is not distributed across the nation, and is hard to get, reports The Press Democrat.
